Stadspiratie, that means inspiration from and for the city. The inspiration comes from you, residents of Brussels. Participation means “working together to build society”. You become involved as a citizen or organisation and actively work together to think about what should be done in Brussels. Your ideas inspire our policy.
Building the city together: how does that work?
At the end of January 2020, we tested our plan for enabling Brussels residents to help think about and discuss policy with 130 professionals and volunteers from the wider Dutch-speaking network (N-netwerk) during two large-scale workshops.
In February, the ideas round began: Brussels residents could submit ideas via a postcard or on the trilingual website www.stadspiratie.be. In (online) workshops, we brought together Brussels residents to come up with ideas. There was great enthusiasm: despite the lockdown, we received no fewer than 1,130 ideas for the city! Both organisations and Brussels residents engaged in conversations with each other about those ideas. In this way, we came up with concrete policy proposals, which we incorporated into our multi-year plan.
Stadspiratie did not stop there. We continue to work in a participatory manner and to involve you in our policy. So together we continue to build the city.
Your inspiring ideas for the city
The Stadspiratie project showed that citizens and associations can do a great deal themselves. The VGC can support these initiatives. Stadspiratie also offers inspiration for the actions in the multi-year plan that the VGC drew up at the end of 2020. You can identify these actions from the Stadspiratie symbol.
We have summarised the ideas around six themes:
- Sustainable and liveable city
- Participating and creating together
- Growing up
- Communication and information
